Description
Fifteen years after the first performance of Rosenkavalier on 26 January 1911 at the Dresden Royal Opera House, the house hosted the world première of the Rosenkavalier film with its international cast. The idea of the film came from Robert Wiene, the artistic and literary director of the Austrian silent film society Pan-Film who during the summer of 1925 directed the film shoot (at the Schönbrunn film studios and in Vienna).
The film music, divided in two acts, is mainly from the musical comedy Der Rosenkavalier Op. 59 but Strauss arranged the individual parts in a different order, to mirror the film.
